Prabowo Claims Junior Judges' Salaries Now Lead ASEAN

President Prabowo Subianto asserted that his administration has significantly boosted judicial remuneration, claiming junior judges now earn more than their counterparts across the ASEAN region. He made these remarks during the Annual Session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) and Joint Session of the MPR, House of Representatives (DPR), and Regional Representatives Council (DPD) on Friday, August 14, 2026.

Now, especially, the income of our junior judges is above the average for judges in ASEAN.

Prabowo highlighted that these salary increases, planned since 2025, are a strategic move to fortify Indonesia's judiciary. He emphasized the courts' role as the ultimate safeguard for citizens' rights and justice, stating that access to legal recourse must be universal, irrespective of financial or political standing.

He further shared a report from Supreme Court Chief Justice Sunarto, indicating that the Indonesian chief justice's earnings now surpass those of the chief justice of Singapore. The president also noted that some judges have seen salary increases of up to 280 percent, a move he linked to combating major corruption cases and ensuring adequate pay for those upholding the law.
