Prabowo holds late-night meeting on forest fires and NTT earthquake response

President Prabowo Subianto convened an urgent meeting at his private residence in Hambalang, West Java, to tackle critical national issues: rampant forest fires and the ongoing recovery from the Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) earthquake. The late-night session on Sunday, August 23, 2026, involved key ministers and military officials.

The discussions centered on the distribution of aid and resources. For the forest fires, particularly in Kalimantan, the president ordered the deployment of 17 additional water-bombing aircraft and 1,500 personnel with individual equipment. The meeting also addressed the provision of 200 pumps and pipes for underground peat fire suppression.

Meanwhile, the NTT region continues to recover from a magnitude 7.7 earthquake on August 15, followed by thousands of aftershocks, which has resulted in 91 confirmed fatalities.
