Prabowo Inaugurates KAI's Luxury Nusantara Explorer Train

Indonesia's state railway company, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI, has introduced the "Nusantara Explorer," a luxury tourist train developed from a concept and directive by President Prabowo Subianto. The initiative aims to enhance national tourism by offering a distinctive Indonesian travel experience via rail.

President Prabowo utilized the Nusantara Explorer during a state visit on Thursday, July 30, 2026, marking the launch of a travel concept that blends comfort, service, cultural richness, culinary delights, and Indonesian panoramas within a single train service. KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin stated that the train fulfills the President's vision to strengthen Indonesia's tourism competitiveness.

The development and modification of the Nusantara Explorer were entirely handled at the Surabaya Gubeng workshop. The train comprises 12 carriages, including sleeper cabins, a Grand Restaurant, a lounge, and operational support cars.

The sleeper cabins are available in three categories: Signature Class, Advance Class, and Compact Class, each offering different spatial arrangements and privacy levels. The Grand Restaurant is designed as a dining space with both communal and private dining options, showcasing Indonesian culinary offerings.
