UMJ Strengthens Educational Collaboration with MoU Signing with Tulang Bawang Regencies

Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta (UMJ) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the governments of Tulang Bawang and Tulang Bawang Barat regencies. The signing ceremony took place at the UMJ Faculty of Economics and Business Hall on Thursday, July 30, 2026.

This collaboration is intended to strengthen partnerships in education, enhance human resources, and foster cooperation in various other sectors. UMJ Rector Ma'mun Murod stated that the agreement is part of an effort to develop an educational area within UMJ's Off-Campus Main Study Program (PSDKU) in Tulang Bawang. A key plan is the construction of an integrated school, aiming to transform the area into an educational hub.

Murod emphasized that the cooperation extends beyond higher education, opening opportunities in diverse fields. He also pointed to a government-supported educational program targeting 150,000 participants nationwide, a quota that has not yet been met. "I immediately contacted several regents because this program is free from the government. Students and regional governments do not incur costs, except during graduation," he said.

Preliminary data indicates approximately 900 prospective participants from Tulang Bawang Barat, while data from Tulang Bawang is still being processed. Murod expressed hope that this opportunity would be maximally utilized to raise the average educational attainment of the community and strengthen human resource quality in both regions. "This cooperation is expected to continue and benefit the community," he added.

Tulang Bawang Regent Qudrotul Ikhwan expressed his appreciation for the MoU. He mentioned that land adjacent to the UMJ campus would be used for the integrated national school, which UMJ could also utilize as an educational support facility. "The Tulang Bawang Regency government fully supports whatever UMJ implements. We recognize that UMJ is part of Tulang Bawang. We have also disseminated information about UMJ's presence to the community," he stated.

Tulang Bawang Barat Regent Novriwan Jaya echoed these sentiments, noting this was his fourth visit to UMJ. He thanked UMJ for its commitment to improving human resource quality in Tulang Bawang Barat and surrounding areas. Jaya hopes that UMJ's presence in Tulang Bawang will further expand community access to higher education and produce superior, competitive human resources.
