Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto articulated a strong belief that true leadership is forged through adversity. He stated that individuals who have never faced hardship or suffering are unlikely to develop the necessary character to lead effectively. This perspective was shared during the 50th birthday celebration of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, in Jakarta.

Prabowo underscored the importance of courage in leadership but cautioned that it must be balanced with virtue and empathy. "Courage without virtue might produce a leader, but perhaps one who is reckless or unwise, a leader who ultimately endangers those they lead," he remarked. He further elaborated that leadership is not an innate gift but is earned through diligent effort, a positive attitude, and strong personal values.

Drawing from his extensive experience, including his time leading the Indonesian Army's special forces, Prabowo shared his ability to quickly assess individuals. He claimed that years of working with people, starting from his early command days, have honed his instinct to understand a person's character from brief interactions. This skill, he suggested, is crucial for identifying and nurturing future leaders who possess the resilience needed to navigate the complexities of international competition and avoid succumbing to challenges.
