Prabowo: NTT Earthquake Response Was Swift and Massive

President Prabowo Subianto asserted that Indonesia's government acted with speed and scale in responding to recent disasters, particularly in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) and Aceh. Speaking in Jembrana, Bali, during a solar power plant launch event, Prabowo highlighted the government's presence "everywhere as a nation" in NTT following the earthquake.

He also referenced the swift handling of disasters in Aceh, stating the response there was faster than many anticipated. However, President Prabowo has not yet visited the NTT disaster-affected areas since the main earthquake struck on August 15, 2026. A visit to the region is anticipated soon, according to Minister of State Secretariat Prasetyo Hadi.

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported 103 fatalities from the 7.7-magnitude earthquake in NTT on August 25, 2026. Manggarai Regency recorded the highest number of deaths with 41, followed by East Manggarai with 34. The agency noted that women constituted 55 percent of the fatalities, while the elderly made up 45 percent of the victims.

The Aceh disaster was resolved in a time that was unlikely to be predicted by many parties.

Injuries have reached 1,666, with significant numbers of serious and minor injuries reported in East Manggarai and Manggarai Regency. The number of displaced individuals has also risen to 185,113, spread across several regencies. The BNPB continues to provide updates on the disaster's impact.
