Prabowo Says Indonesia’s Fate Lies in the Ring of Fire

President Prabowo Subianto said Indonesia’s location in the Ring of Fire means the country must remain ready for disasters at all times. He made the remarks while chairing a virtual limited meeting from Merdeka Palace in Central Jakarta on Monday, September 7, 2026.

This is our fate, a country located in the Ring of Fire, so this requires us to be ready to face situations like this at any time.

The meeting reviewed current disaster responses, including recovery after the earthquake in Flores, the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau, forest and land fires, and the effects of smoke. Prabowo said the government needed to strengthen national mitigation capacity by drawing on experience from previous responses.

He called for a significant and immediate increase in disaster-mitigation funding, saying greater preparation would improve the government’s ability to face future emergencies.

The budget allocation for disaster mitigation must be increased immediately and significantly.

Prabowo also pointed to the response to disasters in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra in 2025. He said the government had restored conditions there through a large-scale national effort and thanked all the agencies involved.

We restored conditions in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra with our own strength. In my view, we were quite successful and overcame them.
