Prabowo targets two-year sugar self-sufficiency goal

President Prabowo Subianto has set an ambitious two-year target for Indonesia to achieve sugar self-sufficiency, significantly shortening the initial four-year projection. This accelerated goal was announced during a harvest festival in Malang, East Java, highlighting the government's commitment to bolstering national food security.

Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman initially reported a plan to rejuvenate 100,000 hectares of sugarcane annually, projecting self-sufficiency in four years. However, after further discussion, the Minister confidently assured the President that the target could be met within two years. Prabowo expressed his appreciation for this commitment, humorously cautioning the Minister to stay healthy to see the plan through.

Prabowo lauded the collective efforts of government officials, the military, police, regional governments, and farmers, acknowledging that many have worked tirelessly, some even to the point of hospitalization. He stressed that this intense work is crucial for accelerating public welfare and demonstrating Indonesia's capacity to thrive independently. "We are chasing targets because the people have experienced a life that is too long unworthy of a large and rich country like Indonesia. We will prove to the world that the Indonesian nation is rising with our own strength. No other nation will build Indonesia except ourselves," he declared.
