Prabowo to Inaugurate Meninting Dam in Lombok, Bolstering Water Infrastructure

President Prabowo Subianto embarked on a working visit to West Nusa Tenggara on Friday, July 10, 2026, to inaugurate the Meninting Dam in West Lombok Regency. The Indonesian Presidential Aircraft-1 carried the President and his entourage from Jakarta for the occasion.

During his visit, Prabowo will symbolically inaugurate four additional dams located in Aceh, Central Java, and Bali provinces. These five new dams are part of the government's broader strategy to bolster water resource infrastructure. Officials highlighted their importance in enhancing food security, ensuring raw water availability, mitigating floods, and fostering clean energy production.

"The presence of these dams is expected to provide significant benefits to the community, especially in increasing agricultural productivity, ensuring water availability, and strengthening the foundation for sustainable development," stated Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. The Meninting Dam itself, a project initiated during President Joko Widodo's administration, commenced construction in 2020 with an investment of Rp1.4 trillion.

The Meninting Dam boasts a capacity of 12.2 million cubic meters, spread across 53.6 hectares. It is designed to supply irrigation water to 1,559 hectares of land, provide 150 liters of raw water per second, and has the potential for a 0.8-megawatt micro hydro power plant. Furthermore, the dam is projected to reduce flooding in West Lombok by 20 percent.
