Pramono Reveals Potential for More Free Transjakarta Beneficiaries

The Jakarta provincial government is exploring the possibility of expanding its free public transportation program to include more beneficiaries. This consideration arises as the city plans to adjust fares for the Transjakarta and Transjabodetabek bus services.

Governor Pramono Anung indicated that if fare adjustments are implemented, certain groups will be affected. Consequently, the government is assessing which additional categories of people might qualify for free rides, supplementing the 15 groups already benefiting from the program. The provincial government and the Jakarta Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) are in the final stages of discussing the potential fare increases.

Discussions also involve recalculating subsidies for Transjakarta and Transjabodetabek before finalizing new rates. The Jakarta Transportation Council (DTKJ) has submitted its recommendations, which are under review. Pramono emphasized the urgency of deciding on the fare adjustments, noting the need to carefully consider the subsidy amounts. He assured that the government, alongside Deputy Governor Rano Karno, is carefully evaluating the proposed fares for the community's benefit and urged the continued promotion of the existing 15 free-ride categories.
