Pregnant woman found dead in Cali, sparking outrage

The joy of expecting a child turned to tragedy for María Camila Potosí, a 21-year-old woman in Cali, Colombia, who was found dead five days after she was reported missing. Potosí was eight months pregnant and eagerly anticipating the birth of her daughter, a moment that had become her greatest source of happiness.

Her family and friends remember her as a kind, innocent, and trusting individual. Despite the challenges of transportation in her neighborhood, she diligently attended her medical appointments, even traveling uphill and downhill on a motorcycle.

The discovery of her body in a rural area of La Buitrera, five days after her disappearance on July 16, sent shockwaves through her community. The educational institution she attended, Institución Educativa La Buitrera, issued a statement condemning the violence and reflecting on the need for a society that values life.

"We categorically and absolutely reject any act of violence that attacks the dignity and life of our young people.
