President Aoun in Greece: Diplomacy is the best path forward, Lebanon seeks support for Israel framework deal

President Joseph Aoun used his visit to Athens to ask Greece for support in implementing Lebanon’s framework agreement with Israel, while presenting diplomacy as the only way forward after years of conflict.

Speaking at a joint summit with his Greek counterpart, Aoun said Lebanon had signed the framework agreement with Israel and stressed that both sides must fully implement it. He called on Greece to help support the process.

Aoun described Greece as a country that had stood by Lebanon through every crisis. He said the visit offered an opportunity to thank Greece and its people for their continued support and to strengthen relations between the two countries across all fields.

He also linked Lebanon’s stability to the interests of Greece and Europe, warning that instability in Lebanon would affect the wider region. Lebanon, he said, had endured the tragedies of war and now needed to find peace. “Diplomacy is the best solution,” Aoun said, adding that Lebanon was determined to end its state of hostility with Israel and build the best possible relations with its neighbors.

The president also pointed to shared Lebanese-Greek interests in international forums and within the European Union.
