President Appoints Liudvika Meškauskaitė to LRT Council

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has appointed Liudvika Meškauskaitė as a new member of the Lithuanian National Radio and Television (LRT) Council. The president signed the decree on Monday, filling the vacancy left by Giedrius Jucevičius, who had previously resigned from his position.

Meškauskaitė is a lawyer and advocate, recognized for her expertise in media law, human rights, and constitutional, civil, and criminal law. She also holds academic positions as an associate professor at Vilnius University and Mykolas Romeris University. Her public service was acknowledged in 2004 when she received the Medal of the Order of the Grand Duke Gediminas of Lithuania from the President.

President Nausėda selected Meškauskaitė from two candidates, with lawyer Vytis Turonis also being considered. The president stated his intention to appoint someone unaffiliated with political parties to the role, a criterion Meškauskaitė appears to meet. The LRT Council is composed of 12 public, scientific, and cultural figures serving six-year terms, with the president responsible for appointing four of these members.
