President Lee Jae-myung to Chair Second Mega-Project Review Meeting

President Lee Jae-myung is set to preside over the second review meeting for the government's "mega-projects" initiative this afternoon at the Blue House. This marks the second such session, occurring just over a month after the initial meeting on June 6.

The primary objective of this second meeting is to discuss strategies for accelerating the implementation of these mega-projects. Furthermore, the discussions will focus on methods to ensure that the investment benefits are broadly distributed, reaching all regions and fostering growth across various industrial ecosystems nationwide.

Key figures from the administration and industry are expected to attend. This includes Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik, Policy Chief Kim Yong-beom, and National Security Advisor Wi Sung-rak. Ministers from relevant government departments, such as the Deputy Prime Minister for Economy and Finance Gu Yoon-cheol and the Deputy Prime Minister for Science and Technology Bae Kyung-hoon, will also be present. Corporate leaders, including Samsung Electronics President Kim Yong-kwan and SK Inc. Head of Future Growth Jeong Seung-il, are scheduled to participate.

Following President Lee's opening remarks, the meeting will feature reports on specific project advancements. The Director-General of the Office for Government Policy Coordination, Lim Ki-geun, will present proposals for regulatory reforms and government innovation to support the mega-projects. Ministers from Industry, Commerce and Energy, Finance and Economy, Defense, Air Force, Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Land, Infrastructure and Transport will provide updates on regional projects and infrastructure plans, including semiconductor cluster sites and power/water supply.

This initiative follows the first meeting's decision to designate Gwangju's military airport as the site for the Honam region's semiconductor cluster. President Lee had previously emphasized the critical nature of these projects, stating, "A full-scale competition that hinges on the nation's destiny is underway," and urged for rapid progress. He specifically highlighted the need for administrative streamlining and deregulation to expedite the completion of semiconductor clusters in Gwangju and Yongin.
