President Prabowo Arrives at France's Élysée Palace

President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia arrived at the Élysée Palace in Paris on Thursday afternoon, May 28, 2026, for a state visit. The welcoming ceremony was broadcast live via the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel.

President Prabowo arrived in a white Mercedes-Maybach S-Class and was greeted by French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu upon his arrival at the Élysée Palace. Prabowo wore a gray suit with a dark blue tie and a black songkok (traditional cap), with sunglasses perched on his head. Prabowo and Lecornu walked together towards the honor guard, and the national anthems of both countries were played. Prabowo saluted during the renditions of "Indonesia Raya" and "La Marseillaise."

Following the ceremony, Prabowo and Lecornu proceeded to introduce their respective country's delegations. Prabowo introduced the ministers accompanying him on this visit, including Foreign Minister Sugiono, CEO of the Investment Coordinating Board Danantara Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto, Cabinet Secretary Lieutenant Colonel Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Indonesian Ambassador to France Mohamad Oemar. The day after his arrival, the Chairman of the Gerindra Party performed the Eid al-Adha prayer at Wisma Indonesia, located at the Indonesian Embassy in the French capital.

Foreign Minister Sugiono stated that President Prabowo's visit to France is at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron. Sugiono explained that the invitation had been previously postponed due to scheduling conflicts. "This is an invitation from President Macron that was actually postponed. I believe it was in April when the visit was expected to take place, but the timing was not suitable then," Sugiono said on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. Sugiono added that President Macron extended another invitation, proposing a new date that was subsequently agreed upon. "During the meeting between the two heads of state, President Macron re-invited and proposed the current date," he noted. Sugiono emphasized that the visit was considered important as it was the second invitation, serving as a reciprocal visit to Macron's previous trip.
