Prison Drug Plot Foiled: Sentences Handed Down

A planned drug operation involving psychotropic substances has been thwarted, leading to significant prison sentences for two individuals. The case, detailed in court documents, reveals a large-scale acquisition of illicit drugs orchestrated by R. M. and carried out by Š. K.

In August 2023, Š. K., acting on instructions from R. M., illegally obtained substantial amounts of psychotropic substances: 26 grams of synthetic cannabinoid, 459 grams of amphetamine and phenethylamine powder, and 1.5 kilograms of colored pills. Following R. M.'s directives, Š. K. packaged these drugs into three parcels and transported them to Joniškis. Later that September, Š. K. again transported the substances to Marijampolė, hiding them in bushes near a house.

The plan was for another individual to retrieve the drugs and deliver them to inmates at the Marijampolė Prison. However, law enforcement officers intercepted the drugs before they could reach their intended destination. The court found both defendants guilty of the charges brought against them.

Š. K. was sentenced to three years of imprisonment. R. M., identified as the organizer, received a harsher sentence of twelve years and two months, which includes time from previous convictions. The investigation was led by a prosecutor from the Kaunas Regional Prosecutor's Office, Organized Crime and Corruption Investigation Department, with the Lithuanian Prison Service's Criminal Intelligence Directorate conducting the inquiry.

The judgment from the Kaunas Regional Court, dated July 17, 2026, can be appealed to the Lithuanian Court of Appeal within 20 days of its pronouncement. The principle of presumed innocence applies, meaning individuals are considered innocent until their guilt is proven and a court ruling becomes legally binding.
