Process opened against 2 bodyguards of congresswoman Elizabeth Montoya in Sinaloa; uniformed officers entered a bar accompanying legislator's relative

An internal disciplinary process has been initiated against two bodyguards assigned to local congresswoman Elizabeth Montoya Ojeda in Sinaloa. The officers are accused of misconduct for entering a bar in uniform while accompanying a relative of the legislator.

Sinuhé Téllez López, the state's Secretary of Public Security, confirmed the investigation. He stated that while Montoya Ojeda will continue to receive protection, the sanctions are directed at the officers for violating protocols by being present in uniform inside a bar.

The incident occurred during a World Cup match between Mexico and Ecuador. Reports indicate that after the game, patrons in the bar began shouting political slogans against the MORENA party. Among those present was the husband of Congresswoman Montoya Ojeda, accompanied by the two uniformed bodyguards. Teresa Guerra Ochoa, a MORENA politician, identified Montoya's husband and the escorts among those shouting.

Montoya Ojeda, a member of Movimiento Ciudadano, clarified that the security detail assigned to her is also extended to her husband and daughters. She noted that she and a colleague were victims of a shooting attack in January, resulting in an irreversible eye injury. She stated that the security protocols for her family are determined by the assigned security elements, and her husband is provided with escorts when he is out alone.
