Professor Alfred Kasunmu, SAN, dies at 90

Professor Alfred Bandele Kasunmu, SAN, a prominent alumnus of Baptist Academy, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at the age of 90. His death was announced by the Baptist Academy Old Students Association (BAOSA).

Kasunmu, who was part of the Baptist Academy Class of 1953, is being remembered by BAOSA as a distinguished lawyer, scholar, mentor, and trustee. The association highlighted his significant contributions to the fields of law and education, as well as his impact on national development. He is also recognized as a cherished patriarch within his family, embodying the core values of integrity, discipline, and service associated with Baptist Academy.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions, BAOSA honoured him last year with the BAOSA Order of Excellence Award as one of 170 distinguished old students of Baptist Academy at our 170th Founders Day celebration.

In recognition of his outstanding achievements, BAOSA bestowed upon him the BAOSA Order of Excellence Award last year during the association's 170th Founders Day celebration. He was among 170 distinguished former students honored at the event. BAOSA described his legacy as one characterized by wisdom, mentorship, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

The association believes his contributions will continue to inspire future generations of students and Nigerians. They find solace in the impactful life he led and the many people he influenced through his dedicated service to law, education, and humanity. BAOSA has urged old students worldwide to offer support and prayers for the bereaved family. Visitation for the family is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, and Sunday, August 16, 2026, between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., with funeral arrangements to be announced later.
