Prominent Doctor, Father of Justina Sadauskienė, Detained on Weapons and Drug Charges

Egidijus Gaigalas, a prominent doctor in Biržai and father of Justina Sadauskienė, has been detained. The Panevėžys District Court is set to decide on prosecutors' request for his pre-trial detention. Police have charged Gaigalas with illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, as well as illegal possession of narcotics or psychotropic substances with intent to distribute, or in very large quantities.

During searches of his home and workplace, authorities reportedly found psychotropic medications and approximately 50 rounds of ammunition of various calibers. The searches involved officers from the Panevėžys County Police and specialists from the "Aras" anti-terrorism unit of the Police Department. These findings are believed to be connected to the ongoing criminal investigation.

The doctor has worked in our hospital for over 30 years, in the Internal Diseases Department. There were no complaints from patients or hospital staff. There were no situations regarding illegally possessed medications. No problems were noticed.

Biržai Hospital Director Petras Bimba stated that the hospital had received no complaints about Gaigalas from either colleagues or patients during his more than 30 years of service in the Internal Diseases Department. Bimba expressed surprise at the news of the doctor's arrest, describing the situation as unpleasant and the process ahead as long and uncertain. He noted that no issues related to illegal drug possession had been observed previously.

However, other positive comments, including one describing him as a "professional specialist in his field" who communicates well with patients and their families, were also noted. Previously negative comments on the platform are no longer displayed.
