Prosecutor carried by police to avoid wetting her shoes during body recovery in Piura

A prosecutor allegedly asked police officers to carry her across a stretch of water so she would not wet her shoes during the recovery of a body in Castilla, Piura. The incident drew indignation from the family of the dead man, who questioned the official's conduct.

The body belonged to Marco Rojas, a 75-year-old man with Alzheimer's disease. He had been missing for about six days before he was found dead on farmland behind the Centenario condominium, near the river.

Family members said the area the prosecutor needed to cross posed no significant difficulty or danger. They questioned why she needed officers' help to avoid getting wet while reaching the place where Rojas's body lay.

Rojas's disappearance had prompted relatives to search for information about his whereabouts. Local residents said they had previously given police information about the possible location of the older man. The Public Ministry led the body-recovery procedure and must determine the circumstances of his death and order the corresponding investigations. Relatives also want authorities to clarify how the search and the procedure after the discovery were handled.
