PSG beat Aston Villa 2-1 to retain UEFA Super Cup

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) solidified their status as Europe's top team by defeating Aston Villa 2-1 in the UEFA Super Cup held in Salzburg, Austria.

Champions League winners PSG successfully defended the title they claimed last year. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring for PSG in the 20th minute with a powerful shot. Aston Villa responded with a debut goal from teenager Brian Madjo just before halftime, assisted by John McGinn.

Desire Doue scored the decisive goal for PSG in the second half. The match saw a debut for Villa's striker Brian Madjo, who had earlier missed a couple of chances. PSG's starting lineup included nine players who won the Champions League against Arsenal in May, featuring key players like Vitinha, Joao Neves, and captain Marquinhos.

Villa's manager Unai Emery handed debuts to midfielder Joao Gomes and striker Madjo, while resting World Cup participants Ezri Konsa, Emi Martinez, and Ollie Watkins. Midfielder Boubacar Kamara also made his first start since a serious knee injury in January.

The UEFA Super Cup pits the winners of the Champions League against the winners of the Europa League. This year's match was officiated by Somalian referee Omar Artan.
