PSG beaten by Lens in French Champions’ Trophy

Lens denied Paris Saint-Germain a second trophy in quick succession, securing a 1-0 victory in the French Champions' Trophy on Sunday. Florian Thauvin's first-half goal proved decisive as Lens, playing under new coach Dino Toppmoeller, added the Champions' Trophy to the French Cup they won in May.

The match, held at Lens' Stade Bollaert-Delelis, saw the hosts overcome the challenge of playing with 10 men for a significant portion of the game. Lens defender Kyllian Antonio was sent off for a studs-up tackle in the first half. Despite this disadvantage, Lens managed to hold onto their lead.

Paris Saint-Germain, who had recently won the UEFA Super Cup, struggled to impose themselves on the game. They dominated possession but found clear-cut chances difficult to create against a resolute Lens defense. The visitors were further hampered when Nuno Mendes received a straight red card late in the match, reducing PSG to 10 men as well. Lens, last season's Ligue 1 runners-up, qualified for this match by winning their first French Cup.
