Psychiatrist links rising youth knife attacks to 'martial male structures' and backlash against emancipation

The increasing prevalence of knife attacks among young people is rooted in a complex interplay of societal and psychological factors, according to psychiatrist Jutta Leth. She identifies a significant element as a "masculine counter-movement to emancipation" and the influence of "martial male structures."

Leth explains that young men are often exposed to outdated or harmful male role models derived from patriarchal systems. These influences are amplified by the pervasive presence of social media and violent video games, which can normalize aggression. The psychiatrist suggests that these platforms provide a distorted view of masculinity and conflict resolution.

Furthermore, Leth points to a critical deficit in healthy coping mechanisms. Young people, particularly boys, may lack constructive ways to deal with their aggressive impulses. This inability to process and control their violent tendencies, combined with external pressures and influences, contributes to the alarming rise in violent incidents.
