Pupuk Kaltim Volunteers Support Community Empowerment in Nagari Kumango

In Nagari Kumango, West Sumatra, volunteers from Pupuk Kalimantan Timur are working with residents across education, environmental protection, health, agriculture and small-business development.

The programme operates in Sungai Tarab subdistrict, Tanah Datar regency, through the BUMN Volunteer Collaboration initiative. Volunteer representative Darman Harun said Kumango was selected for its agricultural potential, local micro and small businesses, cultural values and strong tradition of mutual cooperation.

Nagari Kumango was selected by looking at the potential it has for programme development.

At SDN 20 and SDN 06 Kumango, volunteers are teaching students, strengthening motivation and supporting educational facilities. Environmental work includes public education on waste management and efforts to strengthen community waste banks.

“

Our involvement in this programme provides valuable experience, because it creates space for BUMN employees from various backgrounds to work together and contribute directly to the community.

Health activities include check-ups for mothers, children and older people, nutrition education and stunting prevention. In agriculture and local economic development, volunteers are supporting farmer groups, teaching post-harvest management, promoting sustainable farming and improving financial literacy among small-business operators.

Darman said the programme brought together employees from different state-owned companies to combine their skills with local knowledge. He said the aim was for the work to continue developing community potential after the activities end. Pupuk Kaltim President Director Rafli Yandra described the initiative as a collaborative form of the company’s social and environmental responsibility programme.
