Qatar Demands Iran Compensate for Damages from Attacks

Qatar has formally demanded that Iran compensate for all damages incurred from recent attacks, asserting Tehran's complete legal responsibility in official letters sent to the United Nations and the UN Security Council. The Gulf state cited several specific incidents, including an attack on the Qatari tanker Al-Rukayyat near the Strait of Hormuz on July 7, and missile attacks on July 12 and July 17.

In its communications, Qatar stated that Iran bears "full legal responsibility" for the attacks and their consequences, obligating the Islamic Republic to reimburse the Gulf state for all losses. The July 12 missile interception operations resulted in falling debris that injured three people, including a child. Qatar has explicitly reserved its right to respond under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, which upholds the inherent right to self-defense.

The Qatari government affirmed its intention to implement all necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty, security, and population. This diplomatic action occurs amid heightened tensions between Iran and several Gulf states, as the regional conflict continues to escalate.
