Qatar Denies Detaining Iranian Pilots, Says Remains Recovered After Airspace Breach

Qatar's Foreign Ministry has firmly denied allegations that it detained Iranian pilots, characterizing the reports as misleading and particularly concerning given current diplomatic initiatives to reduce regional tensions. The ministry emphasized that such claims are false and counterproductive to ongoing efforts aimed at de-escalation.

In a statement, the ministry explained that contact was made with the pilots after their aircraft breached Qatari airspace. Authorities verified the flight path and attempted to communicate. When no response was received, necessary measures were taken to defend Qatari territory in accordance with international law and rules of engagement. The circumstances were communicated through official channels at the time.

Qatar also highlighted the role of its experienced and internationally capable search and rescue teams, which conducted operations to locate the pilots' remains. The ministry confirmed coordination with Iran for the handover of one pilot's remains, adhering to international humanitarian law. Furthermore, Qatar had extended an invitation to an Iranian team in April of the previous year to review the details of the search and rescue operations, an invitation that reportedly went unanswered by the Iranian side.
