Qauia residents introduce by-laws to combat drugs and violence

Residents of Qauia are taking community action to address escalating drug use and violent behavior through newly introduced village by-laws. The initiative aims to protect families and ensure the well-being of all residents.

Apenisa Rasalase Volauvou, a resident, highlighted the community's struggle with the pervasive availability of drugs, which has had significant consequences for families and young people. The new by-laws provide a structured approach to managing individuals who are intoxicated or exhibit violent conduct.

These by-laws have received acceptance from the local landowners and are now being actively implemented by a dedicated village committee. This committee is tasked with addressing the various issues impacting the community. Volauvou emphasized that while the community has sought assistance from institutions like the police, military, and the Church, the drug problem remains difficult to control, reinforcing the community's determination to tackle the issue internally.
