QRIS Users Surpass 67 Million as Indonesian Payment System Connects to Six Countries

Indonesia's QRIS digital payment system has reached 67 million users and 45 million merchants, as transaction volumes continue to expand at home and abroad.

Bank Indonesia recorded 15 billion QRIS transactions through July 2026. Deputy Governor Filianingsih Hendarta attributed the growth to the wider digital payments ecosystem, which includes 96 banks, 60 nonbank payment providers and four switching companies.

QRIS is also being used for cross-border payments. Through July, inbound transactions in Indonesia totaled 5.9 trillion rupiah, or $326.3 million, across 19.76 million transactions. Outbound transactions reached 1.73 trillion rupiah, or $95.6 million, across 4.32 million transactions.

We see that transactions through July 2026 have already reached 15 billion in volume.

The cross-border service now connects Indonesia with Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, South Korea and China. Filianingsih said the links make payments more convenient for Indonesians traveling to partner countries because they do not always need to exchange cash.

“If you go to those six countries, you don't need to go to a money changer or exchange money there. You just need to use your cellphone, as long as it has a balance,” she said at the Lampung Financial Festival.
