Quaest poll puts Cleitinho at 32% in Minas Gerais, ahead of Kalil and Patrus at 11%

Senator Cleitinho Azevedo leads the Minas Gerais election with 32% of voter support, according to a Quaest poll released Tuesday. Former mayor Alexandre Kalil and Patrus Ananias, of the Workers’ Party, each received 11%, while Mateus Simões stood at 8%.

Gabriel Azevedo and Flávio Roscoe each registered 3%, Ben Mendes had 2%, and 17% of respondents were undecided. Twelve percent said they would cast a blank or spoiled ballot or not vote. Cleitinho also led the previous Quaest poll, conducted on Aug. 25, with 29%.

The poll’s Senate results showed Marília Campos, a former mayor of Contagem and Workers’ Party candidate, at 13%, followed by Aécio Neves of the Brazilian Social Democracy Party at 10% and Carlos Viana at 8%. Domingos Sávio had 6%, Marcelo Aro 4%, and Áurea Carolina 2%. Several candidates registered 1% or less. Twenty-nine percent were undecided, while 21% said they would vote blank or spoiled or would not vote.

In the presidential first-round scenario among Minas Gerais voters, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva received 31%, up from 30% in August. Flávio Bolsonaro had 27%, down from 31%. Writer Augusto Cury reached 8%, compared with 1% previously, while Romeu Zema had 6% and Ronaldo Caiado 3%. Fifteen percent were undecided, and 8% said they would vote blank or spoiled or would not vote.

A simulated second round gave Flávio Bolsonaro 40% and Lula 37%, reversing the previous poll’s result, when Lula led 38% to 35%. The survey interviewed 1,506 voters aged 16 and older in face-to-face household interviews across Minas Gerais from Sept. 4 to 7. The margin of error was up to three percentage points.
