Quebec Paramedics Reach Tentative Deal With Province After Years Without Contract

Quebec and a union representing 3,500 paramedics have reached a tentative labor agreement, bringing an end to a contract dispute that has lasted for more than three years. The agreement is set to improve working conditions for these essential healthcare workers.

The deal follows six days of intensive negotiations. It covers a broad range of paramedics, including more than 1,000 who work for Urgences-santé, the public ambulance service responsible for Montreal and Laval. The union plans to present the proposed contract to its members for ratification as soon as possible.

While specific details of the tentative agreement have not yet been disclosed by either the union or the Quebec government, the office of Quebec Treasury Board President France-Élaine Duranceau stated that the deal aims to enhance paramedics' working conditions. The government also emphasized that the agreement would help ensure the continuity and efficiency of ambulance services for the public. This tentative deal comes after a period of significant labor action, including strike actions that began in July 2025, with compensation being a primary point of contention.
