Queen Mette-Marit and Queen Sonja will ride in car during funeral procession

Queen Mette-Marit and Queen Sonja will follow King Harald’s coffin in one of the late king’s cars during the funeral procession, according to the Norwegian royal household.

The procession will place King Haakon, Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra, Prince Sverre Magnus and Princess Märtha Louise behind the coffin. Mette-Marit and Sonja will then travel in A2, an Audi A8 L Extended and one of the king’s cars.

The palace has not said whether Princess Astrid, Märtha Louise’s three children or her husband, Durek Verrett, will join the procession. It also did not say whether Mette-Marit’s son, Marius Borg Høiby, would take part.

Large crowds have gathered to pay their respects. The palace told NTB that 6,960 people filed past Harald’s coffin at the Palace Chapel on Saturday. Queues reached nearly seven hours that morning, although the wait later fell below one hour. On Sunday morning, visitors were told to expect about five hours.

King Abdullah II of Jordan is due to attend the funeral on Wednesday, the Jordanian royal household told NTB. Harald made a state visit to Jordan in 2020, his final state visit, and the two royal couples visited the Jordan River during the trip. The crown and state sword have been placed on Harald’s coffin, reflecting the ceremonial role of the royal regalia.
