Quito begins second phase of 12 de Octubre avenue rehabilitation

Quito is commencing the second phase of rehabilitation for the 12 de Octubre avenue, a significant urban artery, starting Tuesday, August 18, 2026. The Municipal government announced the 15-day project will target the southbound lanes between Patria avenue and Madrid street, covering a 740-meter stretch.

This phase follows the completion of work on the section from Cristóbal Colón avenue to Madrid street. The rehabilitation process involves removing deteriorated asphalt, preparing and compacting the surface, laying a new asphalt layer, and implementing road markings. To expedite the process and ensure completion before the school year starts, work will proceed seven days a week.

Authorities have outlined alternative routes for motorists. Light vehicles can use Patria avenue, La Coruña avenue, Madrid street, Cristóbal Colón avenue, and Ladrón de Guevara avenue. Public transport will be rerouted via Toledo street, La Coruña avenue, Ladrón de Guevara avenue, and Madrid street. Drivers and public transport users are advised to plan their journeys in advance and adhere to the safety signage during the construction period.
