Quito begins second phase of Quitumbe Ñan avenue rehabilitation

Quito's southern district is set to see further infrastructure improvements as the Metropolitan Public Company of Mobility and Public Works (Epmmop) commences the second stage of rehabilitation for Quitumbe Ñan avenue. The work is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, focusing on a 450-meter stretch between S46 and S47D streets, adjacent to the Nueva Aurora Hospital. This section will feature two lanes in each direction, pedestrian sidewalks, a central median, and a segregated cycle path, alongside new lighting and signage.

The construction will proceed in two 25-day phases to manage traffic flow. The first phase, starting August 19, will address the north-south direction, rerouting traffic through adjacent streets. The second phase, beginning September 12, will focus on the south-north direction, with traffic diverted accordingly. The Metropolitan Transit Agency will oversee traffic control to minimize disruption.

Upon completion of this second phase, the project will have rehabilitated a total of 1.2 kilometers of roadway, extending from Guayanay Ñan avenue to S47D street. This enhanced infrastructure aims to better connect the Ejército Nacional and Pueblo Solo Pueblo neighborhoods with the surrounding road network. The broader project, initiated in February, also includes urban enhancements like pedestrian crossings, public transport stops, underground cabling, LED lighting, and green area restoration, benefiting several surrounding sectors.
