Quito roadwork projects cause widespread traffic disruptions

Quito is currently navigating a complex web of roadwork projects, with 13 distinct initiatives causing significant traffic restrictions and modifications across the capital. The Avenida 12 de Octubre is a major focus, with southbound lanes closed from Calle Madrid to Avenida Colón for ongoing construction. This project also impacts streets in the La Floresta sector, including Barcelona, Pontevedra, Lugo, and Francisco Salazar.

Authorities are urging drivers to seek alternative routes, such as Calle Madrid, La Coruña, and Toledo, and to exercise caution when traveling near these active work zones. Similar disruptions are occurring in the northern part of the city, including the construction of the La Marquesa vehicular bridge in Pomasqui, which has rerouted traffic to Avenida Simón Bolívar and La Pampa. Lateral lanes of Avenida Galo Plaza Lasso are also affected in several sectors, with central lanes and other avenues serving as alternatives.

Further north, work on the Panamericana Norte affects Calderón, Carapungo, and Carcelén, with Calle N76 as a detour. In Jipijapa, construction on Calle Isla Pinzón between Avenida De los Shyris and Río Coca has rerouted traffic to Río Coca, Gaspar de Villarroel, 6 de Diciembre, and De los Shyris. The southern districts of Turubamba de Monjas, La Ecuatoriana, and Guamaní are also experiencing roadwork on streets like Camilo Orejuela and Los Arrayanes, with detours available on Isaac Chiriboga, Germánico Carrión, Turubamba, and Valle del Cenepa. Additionally, construction of a collector in Guamaní on Calle S51B has specific alternative routes. The busy Avenida Quitumbe Ñan and streets in Quitumbe are also subject to interventions, with multiple alternative streets provided. Finally, areas around Metro stations El Recreo, Morán Valverde, and Cardenal de la Torre are experiencing construction, necessitating the use of alternative streets like Hurtado de Mendoza and Enrique Ibáñez.
