Racing Santander: Olympiakos paid Puerta’s release clause in historic transfer

Olympiakos has completed what is being described as a historic signing after paying the full release clause for Colombian midfielder Gustavo Puerta.

Racing Santander announced that it had transferred the player’s rights to the Greek club after Olympiakos paid €16 million, the entire amount stipulated in Puerta’s contract. The 23-year-old midfielder now leaves the Spanish side for a new chapter in his career.

The agreement is expected to cost Olympiakos more than €20 million in total once Puerta’s salary and agent commissions are included. The transfer therefore becomes the most expensive purchase ever made by a Greek club, according to the report.

The move also gives Olympiakos a major addition in midfield and sets a new spending record for Greek football. Racing Santander said Puerta had left after the Greek team paid the complete contractual clause and wished him well in the next stage of his career.
