Rafizi's party to be humiliated again in Melaka after Johor defeat, analyst says

A political analyst predicts that Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli's party will face another humiliating defeat in the upcoming Melaka state election. This follows their failure in the Johor state election, where they lost deposits in all 15 contested constituencies.

Mohamad Faisol Keling, an associate professor at Universiti Utara Malaysia, stated that the Malay community's rejection of Rafizi's past performance as a minister, coupled with a resurgence of Chinese voter support for Pakatan Harapan amid Pas's cooperation with Barisan Nasional, contributes to this outlook. He believes the party's brand lacks the appeal to garner public support.

He added that the party's promises and formulas from before 2018, and during their time in government, have become a benchmark for the public to assess their true abilities and actions. Consequently, he views the party as likely to fail in gaining public support and merely serving as a "side dish" in the election.

Previously, the party confirmed it would not participate in the upcoming state election, focusing instead on preparations for Melaka. DAP leader Tony Pua urged voters to support Pakatan Harapan in the general election, warning that Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi would become prime minister otherwise. Pua referred to parties that split votes as "troublemakers," seemingly targeting Rafizi's party for its role in the coalition's defeat in two seats during the recent Johor polls.
