Rainbow flag painted over at Reykjavik church

The steps of Grafarvogskirkja church in Reykjavik have become a site of contention after a rainbow flag, painted there following the overpainting of the Icelandic flag, was itself painted over. The Icelandic flag was initially painted over the rainbow flag, leaving the steps bare for a period before the rainbow flag was applied.

Séra Arna Ýrr Sigurðardóttir, the parish priest, commented on the favorable weather conditions that allowed for the painting work. "God gave us good weather for it," she said, referring to the recent painting of the steps. The priest confirmed that BYKO provided the paint, and Reykjavík City supplied the painters for the job.

Regarding the initial act of painting over the rainbow flag, Arna Ýrr stated she has no information about who was responsible. Inquiries made by mbl.is to the police division covering Grafarvogur were initially referred to the police's investigation department. Later, a senior superintendent directed the inquiry back to the local police station. As of the article's publication, police had not been reached for comment on the matter.
