Rally preparations: Itapúa hospital access lighting nears completion

The National Electricity Administration (ANDE) is on the verge of completing significant lighting infrastructure work in Itapúa, Paraguay, in preparation for the upcoming World Rally Championship. The project, which aims to enhance urban lighting in areas affected by the event, is reportedly 95% finished, with expectations to conclude before the rally begins on August 27.

A key component of the work involves the access road to the Itapúa General Hospital (HGI). ANDE has initiated the installation of 160 LED streetlights along the 1.5-kilometer stretch between Route PY06 and the hospital. This segment, costing G. 870 million, also includes pre-assembled conductors and concrete posts, improving visibility and safety.

Ricardo Rondelli, head of ANDE's Southern Regional Division, confirmed that general progress on access routes requested by the rally organizers is at 95%, including repairs to the Encarnación waterfront. He indicated that all requested work would be finished before the rally commences, covering access routes in cities along the competition's path.

However, challenges remain concerning the San Roque González de Santa Cruz International Bridge, which connects Encarnación with Posadas, Argentina. Repairs to the bridge's lighting system fall under the jurisdiction of Argentine authorities. Users have reported a lack of lighting on the bridge for at least a month due to a transformer failure, posing a risk to international traffic. While ANDE has offered assistance and completed some work on the Paraguayan side, the primary responsibility lies with Argentina's energy provider, Energía de Misiones SA (EMSA).
