Rare Russian "Forpost-R" Drone Destroyed Over Kursk Region by Ukrainian Forces

Ukraine's defense forces successfully detected and destroyed a valuable Russian "Forpost-R" reconnaissance and strike drone over Russia's Kursk region on July 27. The operation was carried out by pilots from the 7th Battalion "Topota" of the 414th Separate Brigade's drone units, known as "Madiaro paukščiai."

Using a Ukrainian "Čaklun-KM" drone, the operators intercepted the "Forpost-R" at an altitude of 4,300 meters. The "Forpost-R" is described as a heavy, expensive unmanned aerial vehicle capable of carrying guided munitions, specifically mentioning its ability to deploy KAB-20 laser-guided bombs. This successful interception represents a significant blow to Russia's aerial capabilities.

According to reports citing the commander of the Drone Systems Forces, Robert Brovdi, this is the sixth confirmed instance of a "Forpost-R" drone being destroyed since the full-scale invasion began. The 414th Separate Brigade has now accounted for two of these high-value drone destructions, with their first "Forpost-R" kill occurring in April 2025.

This incident follows another successful Ukrainian operation on the night of July 26, where Ukrainian intelligence forces struck a Russian S-400 "Triumf" missile system in occupied Crimea. That attack reportedly destroyed the system's launcher and a key radar component, further degrading Russia's air defense network.
