RCMP shoot man during overnight standoff in Fox Creek, ASIRT investigating

An RCMP officer shot a man in Fox Creek, Alberta, early Wednesday morning, concluding an hours-long standoff that began Tuesday night. The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is now investigating the police-involved shooting.

The incident unfolded after RCMP responded to a domestic disturbance call involving a weapon at a property on 5A Street around 10:15 p.m. Tuesday. Officers located a man at the scene who was in possession of a weapon and refused to surrender to authorities.

This refusal triggered a seven-hour crisis negotiation period, during which residents in the immediate vicinity were instructed to shelter in place. The standoff ended at approximately 5:18 a.m. Wednesday when a confrontation occurred between the man and RCMP officers. During this encounter, one officer discharged their firearm, striking the suspect.

Following the shooting, the man received medical attention at the scene before being airlifted by STARS air ambulance to a hospital. Police confirmed that no RCMP officers sustained any injuries during the incident. In addition to ASIRT's independent investigation, the RCMP has launched its own internal review and pledged full cooperation with the civilian oversight agency.
