Real Madrid reportedly signs coach Pedro Martínez from Valencia

Real Madrid is reportedly set to make a significant coaching change, agreeing to a three-year deal with Pedro Martínez, according to Marca.

The Spanish club will pay a €1 million buyout clause to Valencia for the 65-year-old coach. Martínez has been with Valencia since 2024, and his tenure culminated in a spectacular season. He guided the club to their second-ever Spanish league championship and a Final Four appearance in the EuroLeague.

Martínez's success was recognized when he was named EuroLeague Coach of the Year, finishing ahead of Kauno Žalgiris coach Tomas Masiulis. He has coached in Spain since 1989, spending his entire career with various Spanish teams.

The decision to bring in Martínez follows a disappointing conclusion to Real Madrid's season. Despite reaching the EuroLeague final, the team sensationally fell in the Spanish league quarterfinals against La Laguna Tenerife, ending the season without a single title. The team was previously coached by Sergio Scariolo.

Valencia is expected to undergo significant changes following Martínez's departure. Key player Jean Montero is also leaving, and Brancou Badio, Sergio De Larrea, Braxtons Key, and Darius Thompson will not return. Jaime Pradilla may also depart.
