Real Sociedad Captain Mikel Oyarzabal Returns to Training After World Cup Win

Mikel Oyarzabal, captain of Real Sociedad, has rejoined his club's facilities after achieving World Cup glory with the Spanish national team. The forward returned to the Zubieta training ground on Monday to undergo his medical examination, marking his official return to preparation for the upcoming 2026-2027 season.

Oyarzabal, who was the last international player from the squad to return, will commence training with his teammates on Tuesday. The team is currently enjoying a rest day on Monday. The captain enjoyed a three-week vacation following Spain's World Cup victory, where he played a significant role and emerged as the team's top scorer with five goals.

He had previously visited Zubieta on July 22nd shortly after returning from the World Cup celebrations, primarily to greet his colleagues and the coaching staff. Now, he is back to fully integrate into the team's preparations.

Manager Pellegrino Matarazzo will have his full squad available for the final phase of pre-season training. Oyarzabal will have just eleven days to get match-fit before Real Sociedad's La Liga EA Sports debut against Real Betis on August 21st at the Cartuja stadium. The coaching staff will closely assess his physical condition to determine his availability for that opening match.
