Recovery of 450 MW in national electrical system advances after earthquakes

Venezuela's national electrical system is steadily recovering following significant damage caused by earthquakes on June 24. Minister of Electric Energy Rolando Alcalá provided an update on the restoration efforts, emphasizing continuous work by teams from Corpoelec.

Alcalá stated that efforts are ongoing 24 hours a day since the two seismic events occurred. The earthquakes toppled 10 high-tension towers on the Planta Centro-Yaracuy transmission line, resulting in an initial loss of 600 megawatts (MW) of power.

The ministry reported that 450 MW are currently being recovered. Specifically, at the Termocarabobo plant, two out of four generation groups have been restored, with a third expected to be operational soon, contributing to the 450 MW recovery. Further work is underway at the Planta Centro's generation unit number 6, a 600 MW facility, with its reintegration into the national grid anticipated in the coming months.

These restoration efforts aim to bring the national electrical system back to full operational capacity after the seismic disruptions.
