Recycling expands in Tailevu

Residents in Tailevu, Fiji, now have greater convenience for recycling with the launch of a new Return & Earn collection center at Korovou Market. This initiative is poised to boost the recovery of plastic bottles and aluminum cans, contributing to a reduction in litter across the Tailevu corridor. The Korovou facility marks the 15th Return & Earn collection point in Fiji and the third within the Nausori Town Council's jurisdiction. Program representatives noted strong participation in the Nausori area, where two existing centers collected over 181,000 beverage containers in August alone. This success indicates that proximity to collection points significantly influences recycling rates. The new Korovou center is expected to enable more households, schools, businesses, and community groups to earn refunds while actively participating in environmental stewardship. Local council officials expressed continued support for waste management initiatives that encourage community involvement and create income opportunities. Nationally, Return & Earn Fiji has reported a recovery of more than 7.5 million beverage containers in the first six months of 2026, underscoring the program's growing reach and impact across Fiji.
