Red Cross Holiday Program Overwhelmed by Demand from Needy Families

The Norwegian Red Cross is facing a significant challenge in meeting the demand for its free holiday program, "Ferie for alle" (Holiday for All). This year, the organization received double the number of applications compared to the available spots, underscoring a substantial unmet need among financially struggling families.

With a capacity to host 3,330 participants, the program has seen consistently high application rates that far exceed its resources. Grete Herlofson, Secretary General of the Red Cross, stated that the need is much greater than what they can currently provide. "If we had more resources, we could do more," she remarked, emphasizing the limitations imposed by current funding.
