‘Red Team’ Cho Kuk says Democrats turned him into an anti-Lee critic after he offered loyal advice

Cho Kuk, who has positioned himself as a “red team” for President Lee Jae-myung and the Democratic Party, says his warnings have been met with ridicule rather than consideration.

In a Facebook post on the 4th, Cho said he had loudly knocked on the door to repay what he called a debt of gratitude, only to have people throw waste at him for making too much noise. He said he had presented an objective assessment of the situation and possible responses out of loyalty, but was attacked as “ungrateful” or accused of speaking irrelevantly.

Cho argued that such criticism would do nothing to solve the problems facing the president or restore support for his administration. “And what help is it to the president to create yet another ‘anti-Lee’?” he asked.

His comments followed a post on the 1st about the withdrawal of prosecution in a case involving Lee and a proposed special counsel law on fabricated indictments. Cho wrote that legislation would fail if it gave the impression of being created for one particular person. He also said that if prosecutors withdrew charges on the grounds that an indictment had been fabricated, the fabrication would first have to be established.

Democratic lawmakers responded sharply. Supreme Council member Park Sun-won said Cho’s remarks could not be called “the language of a comrade” and described them as ungrateful. Five-term lawmaker Park Jie-won said Cho was again speaking irrelevantly and expressed frustration that people once considered clever were acting this way.
