Refereeing: Messaoud Koussa honored by the FAF

Messaoud Koussa's journey in football is a remarkable one, spanning from his days as a player and captain for SAS to his acclaimed career as an international referee. His reputation for seriousness, honesty, and courage on the field earned him respect across Algeria. His appointment as a FIFA referee in 1988 was a major sporting event for the region, and his officiating at prestigious tournaments for CAF, FIFA, and UAFA, including the Palestine tournament where he was lauded as the best referee, cemented his legacy.

Koussa's name resonated on all fields in Algeria with this strong reputation as a serious, honest, courageous referee, who would stop at nothing and refuse no designation, however complex.

Beyond his on-field achievements, Koussa continued to serve Algerian football in various administrative capacities, including roles within the CCA/FAF, the National League, and the regional league of his hometown. The recent honor bestowed upon him by Walid Sadi, Minister of Sports and President of the FAF, during the General Assembly, serves as a fitting recognition of his multifaceted contributions as a former player, international referee, league president, and dedicated activist within the national sports movement.

In 1988, Messaoud Koussa was consecrated as a FIFA referee and for the new regional league of Batna, of which Sétif was a part.
