Relationship with Haruna Iddrisu and Muntaka remains intact despite reshuffle comment— Asiedu Nketiah

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of Ghana's National Democratic Congress (NDC), has affirmed that his personal relationships with Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu and Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak remain intact, despite recent reshuffling decisions that affected them. Nketiah stated that his interactions with both ministers are amicable and that they continue to communicate regularly.

Speaking on JoyNews, Nketiah defended his decision to publicly discuss the reshuffle, insisting his comments were truthful and aimed at clarifying that there was no personal hostility between him and the affected ministers. He explained that his intention was to demonstrate that political decisions do not necessarily translate into personal animosity. "It doesn’t change the truth whether some people accept it or not accept it. The truth remains the truth," he stated.

Nketiah recounted instances where he and Muntaka now joke about the reshuffle. He shared a light-hearted exchange where he jokingly told the Interior Minister that he now had the power to arrest him, to which Muntaka responded that he might lose his position before getting the chance. Nketiah believes that while political decisions can sometimes cause temporary discomfort, they are often necessary for achieving broader party objectives. He stressed that personal relationships should be preserved, even when political actions might cause short-term pain.

The NDC chairman also disclosed that he has maintained regular contact with both ministers, including a recent conversation with Mr. Haruna. He suggested that initial hurt felt by some individuals regarding his public comments has since subsided as the context became clearer. Nketiah maintains that no one should have been offended by his statement when considered in its full context, emphasizing the importance of maintaining party unity and personal bonds amidst political changes.
