Remembering Munir 22 Years After His Death, Activists Vow Not to Forget

Twenty-two years after Munir Said Thalib's death, his name remains alive among those campaigning for human rights in Indonesia. Dozens of activists and students gathered at Sisir Cemetery in Batu, East Java, to remember him and preserve the memory of his work.

The symbolic action carried the theme “Nurturing Memory and Refusing to Forget.” Participants said the gathering served both as a tribute to Munir and as a reminder that the struggle for justice and human rights enforcement is not over.

Munir died on Sept. 7, 2004. His struggle has remained part of the collective memory of Indonesia's human rights movement, with activists continuing to invoke his legacy more than two decades later.
