Renan Santos registers presidential bid, declares R$ 795,000 in assets

Businessman Renan Santos has officially registered his candidacy for the Brazilian presidency, declaring assets totaling R$ 795,000 to the Superior Electoral Court. Santos, representing the Missão party, will run with retired military police officer Aroldo Medina as his vice presidential candidate.

Santos also submitted a 51-page government plan, which proposes significant policy shifts. Key proposals include the abolition of affirmative action quotas, replacing the Bolsa Família social welfare program with work initiatives, and implementing a broad fiscal adjustment. This adjustment would involve de-indexing pension and welfare benefits from the minimum wage and decoupling health and education funding from revenue. The plan also suggests merging the Culture and Education ministries, reducing the number of municipalities, and altering the criteria for funding under the Rouanet Law.

The Missão party has been actively fundraising for Santos's campaign, with items like a "luxury" proposal book package reaching R$ 7,000 and flags priced at R$ 1,000. The party states these sales are intended to generate resources for the campaign. So far, only Romeu Zema and Samara Martins have also registered their presidential candidacies with the TSE.
